Kind Home Painting had no shortage of ideas. It had too many. The Google Ads account had ballooned to more than forty campaigns: holiday-lights promos, display remarketing, “smart” campaigns, and a dozen zip-code-by-zip-code search builds across the Denver metro, most of them paused. Spend was scattered across seasonal side-quests instead of the core money-maker: painting estimates.
For a high-ticket, estimate-driven business, the metric that matters is not clicks. It is qualified homeowners who book an in-home estimate. Too much budget pointed at low-intent display and out-of-season lighting campaigns, while the high-intent painting searches, “interior painters near me” and “cabinet painting Denver”, were not being prioritized. Kind Home needed its ad account to do one thing well: fill the calendar with estimates during peak summer painting season.
We rebuilt the account into a single-minded lead engine. The principle: every dollar should work toward a booked estimate, so we optimized to lead conversions, form fills and phone calls, not vanity clicks.
Branded campaigns defended the Kind Home name at rock-bottom cost, while core-service search for interior, exterior, and cabinet painting caught homeowners ready to hire.
Cheap lead volume scaled across the metro on the three service lines that drive revenue, letting Google's signals find demand at a fraction of Search's cost per lead.
Holiday lights, dormant zip builds, and display remarketing stayed paused so budget concentrated on summer painting demand.
Search did the high-intent work. Branded campaigns posted standout engagement at 30–34% click-through rates and delivered the warmest calls in the account. Core-service search covered the money terms, catching homeowners mid-decision on interior, exterior, and cabinet work.
Performance Max became the volume engine, producing cheap, high-volume lead flow across the Denver metro that Search could never match on price. Budget discipline held it together: rather than spreading $15.6K across forty campaigns, spend flowed to the roughly 10 enabled winners while clutter stayed paused. Several core campaigns were still capped by budget, flagging clear room to scale.
In July, Google Ads produced 485 tracked leads at $32 each, including 68 phone calls, which the Kind Home team worked into 37 booked estimates. Those estimates turned into $180K collected against just $15.6K in ad spend, a return of roughly 11.5x.
Put another way, each estimate cost about $422 to generate and returned close to $4,900 in collected revenue on average.
The result came from subtraction as much as strategy. Kind Home already had demand. The win was cutting the seasonal clutter and pointing every dollar at booked estimates. Pairing high-intent Search with high-volume Performance Max gave the best of both, warm inquiries that close and cheap leads that scale, all optimized to the same conversion.
The lesson for any estimate-driven home-services business: stop measuring clicks, start measuring booked estimates, and let Search and Performance Max play their different roles feeding one pipeline.
Several of Kind Home’s best campaigns were still capped by budget: untapped estimates we are built to capture.
